Lapithiou

The old village has very few buildings that are not merely piles of stones. It seems to have been replaced by prefabricated buildings located just below the old village.

Getting there

From Paphos take the road to Polis then at the top of the long hill take the road to the right which is signposted to Tsada. Bypass Tsada village then Kallepia village. Take the left-hand turn to Polemi and Kannaviou. In Polemi follow the signs to Panagia then to Kannaviou. Drive through Psathi, bypass Agios Demitrianos then descend the long hill into Kannaviou. In this village take the right-hand turn to Lapithiou.

Looking around

If you drive past the prefabricated buildings and the abandoned cars you will see the green and white painted mosque on the left. The mosque, which appears to have doubled as a schoolhouse is neglected internally.

If you climb up the hill above the mosque you will be among the ruins of the old village. If you climb higher you can look down onto some of the more intact remains. If you wish to see wild flowers it is probably better to descend to Kannaviou then turn left at the main road. Before you begin the ascent to Tsada turn left on a track then fork right just before a small farm. Follow this track until it descends to the river bed where, especially in spring and early summer, there are many wild flowers. Alternatively you may drive to Annaviou where, on the access road, there are many wild flowers.
