Statos-Ayios Photios is a new village which replaced the villages of Statos and Ayios Photios, these having been devastated by earthquakes and land slides. The abandoned village of Statos lies below.
From the Paphos to Limassol motorway take the exit to Agia Varvara. Bypass this village, drive through Axylou and Elediou then bypass Amargeti. Just after you bypass Pendalia, on the right, take the road signposted to Choulou. Where the road is signposted left to Choulou, carry straight on to Statos.
It is a compact village and worth a look around. The church with its bell tower is locked but clearly looked after, except for the bell tower which needs attention. Opposite the church through some abandoned buildings and a nettle-filled building is a more or less roofless house which clearly depicts the bygone construction of earth roofs. Here also are unusual carvings in the remaining roof beams. Towards the outskirts of the village on the corner of one of the few renovated houses is a cobbled track leading up from the right of the tarmacked road. This is presumably the remains of a 'tax' road - a road built by the inhabitants which exempted them from paying taxes to the government.
You may return the way you came or alternatively go back to the turn off to Choulou then proceed through Choulou and Letimbou to the Paphos to Polis road.
